Taking on a global cause like combating Child Prostitution seems almost impossible. The recent numbers show that the extent of child prostitution is estimated somewhere around the one million mark. One million children. Children between the ages of nine and eighteen are essentially robbed of their innocence and forced to sleep with up to twenty different men a day. We can’t just stand by and accept this atrocity–we have to do something about it.

The Sold Project is one of many organizations that has risen to combat this challenge. They are based in Thailand (one of the largest breeding grounds for child prostitution in the world) and have an amazingly effective strategy to combat child prostitution at its very core.  This organization does not simply throw money at the problem and expect it to be fixed–they provide a comprehensive and practical model to get the job done. Here’s how they do that.

However, the essence of their program is to provide children in Thailand with a proper education so that they are not forced into sex slavery. Many children in this area are forced out of school (due to lack of proper education options and lack of finances), and many of them are then sent into the city to work. The sex industry in the city is very manipulative, and as such, lure many children to work for them–this is the beginning of the end, as there are literally countless stories of children dying hopeless, lonely deaths in filthy airless rooms. The problem seems immense, and the solution is definitely not simple. But The Sold Project is taking the necessary steps to make a change in this situation.

If these children are able to stay in school, get a proper education, and receive the support that they need, they will avoid having to be forced into the city for work, and as such, avoid child prostitution.
